West Mebon Temple – West Baray – Artisans Silk Farm

West Mebon Temple, West Baray local lunch experience, and Artisans Silk Farm itinerary offers visitors a lovely combination of ancient Khmer history, local food, relaxation, and traditional Cambodian craftsmanship.

MORNING: 8:30 AM – Depart from Siem Reap to West Mebon Temple. After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and assist you with purchasing your Angkor Pass, if needed. This process takes approximately 15 minutes, giving you a little time to look around the ticket area. We will then continue driving along National Road No. 6 before turning onto another paved road toward West Baray. The total drive from Siem Reap to West Baray takes approximately one hour, depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival at West Baray, we will arrange a boat trip to West Mebon Temple, which takes approximately 15 minutes each way. The estimated round-trip boat fee is around US$20 per person.

9:45 AM – Visit West Mebon Temple – Duration: Approximately 2 hours

Highlights: West Mebon Temple is an ancient Khmer temple located on an island in the West Baray, a large artificial reservoir in the Angkor region of Cambodia. It was built during the 11th century, generally associated with the reign of King Suryavarman I (1006–1050), when the Khmer Empire developed major temples and impressive water-management systems. The temple was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, who is associated with the preservation of the universe. One of its most remarkable discoveries was a large bronze statue of the reclining Vishnu, demonstrating the artistic skill and religious traditions of the ancient Khmer civilization. The West Baray itself was an important part of the Angkorian water-management system, supporting the region’s agricultural and urban life. The temple was rediscovered in modern times in 1936, when fragments of the remarkable bronze Vishnu statue were found.

AFTERNOON : 11:45 AM – Relaxing Lunch Break at West Baray

After visiting West Mebon Temple, we will take the boat back to the dock at West Baray. You can then rent a traditional local hut by the water, where you can relax in a hammock, enjoy the peaceful lakeside atmosphere, and watch local people swimming and enjoying their free time.

For lunch, you can order popular Khmer local dishes, such as grilled chicken, grilled fish, and steamed rice, freshly prepared by local restaurants. If you wish, you can also enjoy a swim in the reservoir while waiting for your food, provided local swimming conditions are safe.

We will spend approximately two hours here, giving you time to enjoy an authentic Cambodian local experience, relax, and taste traditional Khmer food beside the water.
